The Spirit-Ruled Mind
“For we walk by faith and not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7. After 27 years of ministry, dealing with people, and teaching the Word of God, I have come to the conclusion that the number one problem in the church today is an unrenewed mind. Christians make life and their problems bigger than they are. They even talk themselves into defeat and despair. People (Christians) forget who they are, what they have , and what they can do, or they’ve never taken the time to renew their minds to those facts or truths. The above scripture says we walk by faith. What does that mean? Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” So to walk by faith is to walk (think and act) according to God’s Word. The second portion of that scripture says, “and not by sight.” What does it mean, “not by sight?” It means not by the senses. Not by what you can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch.
Now the senses are our means for contacting the outside world around us and are indicators both positively and negatively when our bodies are functioning right and wrong. But they only connect us to the natural realm. And we know that through the Word and the Spirit we can and should live above the natural realm. 2 Corinthians 4:18, “…While we look not at the things that are seen but the things that are not seen. For the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal.” Temporary means subject to change. We don’t deny the natural. We determine not to let it govern our life and if necessary, we can change it by the power of the Spirit of God and the dominion of God. Romans 4:17 “…God who gives life to the dead and calls those things that which do not exist as though they did.” How do we deal with the negative issues of life? By seeing through the Word, we agree with our hearts (mind and spirit) and our mouths what God says in His Word is true regardless what symptoms and circumstances say. Then, get determined, and by the authority and power of God, you make that situation change. You get that? You, make that situation change. How? By not being weak in faith, by not wavering at the promise of God through unbelief, but being strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, we are fully convinced that what He has promised He will also perform.
Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world (don’t think, talk, and act like unsaved people), but be transformed (changed from the inside out) by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 8:5-6, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
