It is Finished!

John 19:28,30”After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.” The Wuest translation reads, ”It has been finished and stands complete.” The assignment given to Jesus in coming to this earth- ultimately to get to the cross and accomplish and satisfy the claims of justice for all humanity ia perfect and complete. We want to look at one meaning or accomplishment of what Jesus meant when He said “It is finished.”

The Old Man is Dead
1Cor.15:45,47”And as it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.” Jesus is the last Adam and the second man. The old man in Adam is dead. Now a new race of people- the New Creation, the Jesus race exists of those that are born-again. Romans 6:6”Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” 2Peter 1:3-4”According as his divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him that has called us to glory and virtue.” Ephesians 2:1-3 tells us that we were dead in trespasses and sins. We used to walk according to the prince of the power of the air. We had a lifestyle in the lusts of the flesh. We were by nature children of wrath.
Now we are forgiven of all our sins. Ephesians 1:7. Now the sin issue, the nature of sin has been dealt with in the body of Jesus. Hebrews 9:26. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 2Cor. 5:21. We are no longer in the flesh, but in the Spirit. Romans 8:9. We have resurrection life that is making alive these mortal bodies. Romans 8:11. We are complete in Him. Col. 2:8-9. We are no longer servants but sons. Galatians 4:7. We are continually in the light and cleansed forever. 1John 1:7. We were darkness, but now we are light. Col. 1:13.
Much of what Christians do today, the self-help gospel, could be eliminated if we would first realize we are dead-dead to sin and alive to God. Romans 6:11. The New Creation Man is a Christ Man- a dispenser of the light, the life, and the glory of Almighty God. Colossians 1:27”…Christ in you the hope of glory.” Both 1 Thess. 2:12 and 2 Thess. 2:14 tell us that we are called to His kingdom and glory. Romans 8:29-30,”For whom he did foreknow, he did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn of many brethren. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
Philippians 3:13-14,”Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” The high calling of God is to show forth His glory, the resurrection power, the person of Jesus Christ, now. As He is so are we in this world. 1John 4:17. This is all accomplished by the Person and power of the Holy Spirit that is one with our spirit. This is all accomplished by God’s grace!
