July 2015 Teaching Letter - The Lordship of Jesus Christ
Colossians 1:15-16”He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers, all things were created through him and for him.” The word “image” is the word “eikon” in the Greek and it means likeness, outward and bodily image. It is the exact revelation and representation. The word “firstborn” is the word “protokos” meaning the firstborn of all creation. It refers to Jesus’ exalted position, not the timing of His physical birth.
Jesus is Lord over all of His creation. This includes His dominion over all the forces of darkness, which are also subjects of His creation who fell from their first estate in Genesis 1. There is no reason to fear demonic spirits or to seek protection from them because Jesus has defeated them and neutralized their power at the cross. Colossians 2:15”Having disarmed principalities and powers he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it (the cross).” 1John 3:8”For this purpose was the Son of God manifest, that he might destroy (render helpless or paralyze) the works of the devil.” Those who are under the Lordship of Jesus Christ are not under the rule and authority of evil principalities and powers.
Everything that Jesus is Lord over, that is what we are lord over. His lordship is our lordship. Revelation 19:16”King of kings and Lord of lords.” Kings imply ruling. Lords imply domain. The cross is the only means for ruling under Him or to “reign in life.” Romans 5:17”For if by one man’s offense death reigned by the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.” The cross of Christ has settled the claims of justice for all who believe. Actually, it is settled for all whether they believe it or not. Their belief is their possession of salvation, the finished work.
Jesus is Lord over sin, sickness, poverty, death, principalities and powers. So why do Christians continue to struggle in these areas? He is Lord over sickness, poverty and death. He is the High Priest of health, prosperity and life. Hebrews 3:1 tells us that Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. The present ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ is that He is our High Priest. We are in the high court of heaven and our life is on trial every day. God the Father is the judge and He has established the way things are supposed to be. Jesus is our attorney for the defense and Satan is the prosecuting attorney. The Holy Spirit is the witness and He testifies to the Word of God. In Mark 11:23, Jesus said that you will have what you say.
There are three things necessary for a move of God. 1) It is finished. From God’s perspective, our starting point is – it is finished. 2) Your sins are forgiven. There is nothing standing between anyone and God. 3) Decree the end results or what you want to happen based on the Word and the finished work of Jesus at Calvary. John 6:63” My words are spirit and my words are life.” Jesus- “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 12:35,37”A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man, out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil things. For by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned.” Hebrews 4:14”Seeing then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” We cannot one minute proclaim freedom from sin, sickness, poverty, death or the devil and the next minute declare sickness, weakness and lack. Confession is possession. Romans 10:9-10. With the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The whole kingdom of God works this way. Proverbs 4:20-22 tells us that the Word is medicine to all our flesh. Verse 23 of Proverbs four says to keep or guard our hearts for out of it are the issues of life. Why? Because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Speak the Word only! Begin decreeing the Lordship of Jesus Christ, His dominion and power. Abstain from speaking words contrary to Jesus’ victory and your victory through Him. Deuteronomy 30:19”I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: choose life that you and your seed may live.” The word “blessing” means words spoken to produce a positive effect. “Cursing” are words spoken that produce a negative effect. We have chosen Jesus. He is life. Now align your heart and mouth with the word of God and decree the life giving power of God’s word. The Holy Spirit unites with the Word and brings it to pass. This is spiritual Law. This is how we got saved. This is how we rule and reign in this life. His Lordship is our lordship.
