June 2015 Teaching Letter - Divine Favor

1John 5:1,4-5” Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. Whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” Romans 8:37”Yet in all these things (persecution, tribulation, famine, nakedness, peril, sword) we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” The potential and possession of every believer is the fullness of Christ. John 1:16 "And of his fullness have we all received and that grace for grace.” Colossians 2:10 “And you are complete in him.” Being an overcomer, more than a conqueror, is not something that you do, but it is a position that God puts you in by grace the moment that you believe in Jesus as the Son of God. God the Father wants us to experience the reality of being an overcomer and to show forth his glory. Colossians 1:27”Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Luke 2:52 “And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” Our authority and ability are a result of God’s favor. God’s favor is always bestowed as a gift and can never be earned. That's why it is called grace, which means unmerited favor. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God- not of works lest any man should boast.” We start out by grace through faith and now we live by grace through faith. We are in a covenant and dispensation of grace. Jesus is grace. Keep focused on Jesus, the cross, the finished, work because Jesus has done it all. James 4:6-7”But he gives more grace. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Who are the humble? They are those that rely upon God and not their own strength or what they can do or have done.
Look at all of the Old Covenant saints before and after the Law was given. God continued to bless them by grace in spite of their faults and failures. Nobody in the Old Covenant was blessed by the Law. The reason is because nobody could keep the Law. If they got anything it was by God’s love, mercy, and grace. It is a principle of life- you will always live to the level of your faith. The potential is the same for everyone, but not every one lives at that same level of faith. As we grow in our walk with God, we exercise more of that faith. Understand that faith is not something that we produce. Faith is what happens to us when we hear grace. That is why it is imperative that we hear the gospel of grace. That is why it is a revelation of the person of Jesus Christ that is needed and not a revelation of ourselves. When we look into the mirror of God’s Word we are to see Jesus and when we see Him we see ourselves as God sees us.
Colossians 2:8”Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ.” God’s blessings and provision are based on His faithfulness and His goodness. The blessings, provision, power, etc., have never been by law- it is always by grace-the person of Jesus Christ. People have a tendency to be intimidated by other men’s philosophies that are nothing more than rationalizations to justify failure. When we accept such philosophies we accept the failures upon which they are based. 2Corinthians 3:17-18”Now the Lord is that Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, as beholding in a mirror the glory of the Lord are changed from glory to glory even by the Spirit of the Lord.” God wants to change us from the inside out by pouring out our lives from glory to glory. Don’t let someone else’s unbelief, or rejection of truth or refusal to grow stop your life or your dreams. Grow with God. Grow in grace. Grow in truth. Grace is the truth! John 1:17”For the Law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” Grace is the truth! Jesus is the truth! Jesus is grace!
