October 2014 Teaching Letter - Confidence as a Christian

Philippians 1:6 ”Being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (second coming). That good work that God the Father has begun and will complete is developing us and putting us in fellowship and co-operation with others to advance His kingdom. Father God has a plan and a purpose for our life. It is not just to get saved and have our needs met, thank God for that, but it is working together with others to influence as many people as possible with the love and power of God, and translate people out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His Son.
Until that work is complete, we have confidence that God the Father is going to do everything possible to preserve our life spiritually, mentally, physically until we can say with the apostle Paul that “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2Timothy 4:7. For all of us this does not apply. We have much work to do. We have many lives to touch. Our dreams and desires have not been accomplished yet. So God is going to continue that good work in and through us and if need be until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
How is God going to accomplish that? The answer is by faith! 2Corinthians 5:7”For we walk by faith, and not by sight.” Hebrews 11:1”Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The Amplified Bible says: ”Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction (we are convinced) of their reality -faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.” Everything in this world, this cosmos, (and Satan is the god of this cosmos and age) is designed to get you to get your eyes off of God’s Word, His truth, and to get you to focus on the circumstances and five senses to govern your life, to get you out of faith. Why? Because by faith we can receive and do everything and anything that God says we can. Philippians 4:13”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Luke 22:31-32”And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you are converted, strengthen your brethren.” This was Jesus’ prayer for Peter. For us, our faith cannot fail! Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith! Hebrews 12:2. His faith is our faith. Galatians 2:20”…. and the life I now live in the flesh (in this fleshly body), I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.” Jesus is our faith! Romans 4:19-21”And being not weak in faith, he (Abraham) considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Romans 8: 31-32, 35, 37”What shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or nakedness, or famine, or peril, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. “ Hebrews 10: 35-39”Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense of reward. For you have need of patience, that, after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.”
Our confidence is in Almighty God and in His word. 1Kings 8:56”Blessed be the LORD, that has given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.” Hebrews says a greater than Moses is here. His name is Jesus who is called the Christ. He has given us a rest, and that rest is faith. It is faith in Him and in His word. Hebrews 3:14 Amplified: “For we have become fellows with Christ the Messiah and share in all He has for us, if only we hold fast our first newborn confidence and original issued expectation (in virtue of what we are as believers) firm and unshaken unto the end.”
