The basis for confession is God’s word. God’s word is the guideline for faith’s confession. The word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
v16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
A) Definition – sanctify -Greek hagiazo, to separate from a profane to a sacred use; to consecrate self-wholly to God and His service. The primary meaning is separation. It means to be made holy only when a person or thing need to be cleansed from sin or defilement in order for it to be fit for the Master’s use.
Hence, there is a twofold meaning of sanctification:
1) Separation from evil
I) Definition – The judicial act of God by which, on account of Christ, to whom the sinner is united by faith, He declares the sinner to be no longer exposed to the penalty of the law but is restored to divine favor.
Note: The word “justify” in the New Testament does not mean to make righteous, but to declare righteous. Justification is the state of one who is thus declared righteous. Romans 8:10 “And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”
I) The Person of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force. He is not a mere influence. The Holy Spirit possesses full, distinct personality. He is a person as clearly taught in the Scripture.
A) Personal pronouns are used when relating to the Holy Spirit
1) John 14:16-17
V16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;
I) The creation of man
A) The Scriptures clearly teach that man was created by God and in His image and in His likeness.
V26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.
V27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
I) The Person of Christ
A) The Pre-existence of Jesus Christ
The Scriptures clearly teach that as the second person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ existed before His incarnation. The word incarnation means to take on the humanity or human/. God becoming a man. Romans 8:3; Hebrews 2:14. The incarnation as we will teach later was in order to the atonement. John 1:1-3, 14.
And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the glory as the only begotten Son of God full of grace and truth.
The apostle Paul in accordance with the Lord Jesus Christ emphasized the importance of doctrine(instruction or teaching) as the foundation or guideline for our life, as our beliefs form the basis of our actions.
OT- Deut. 32:1-2
V1 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
V2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, My speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
